Drug: Ketamine

Aka: special k, k, green, vitamin k, super k

What is it?

Ketamine is a powerful general anaesthetic, often used by vets. It has powerful hallucinogenic qualities.

How is it used?

Legally produced ketamine comes in liquid form for injection. However illegally produced ketamine is a grainy white powder or tablet, which is either snorted or swallowed.

What are the effects?

  • Ketamine can have similar effects to LSD.
  • You can trip for up to an hour and can feel the effects for some hours after that.
  • It can give you an ‘out of body’ experience.
  • It can make you feel like your mind and body have been separated.
  • You can become psychologically dependant on it.
  • You don’t feel pain.

What are the risks?

  • As you don’t feel pain, you could be in danger of hurting yourself
  • It can be dangerous when mixed with other drugs and alcohol. With depressant drugs and alcohol it can lead to unconsciousness and suppress breathing and heart function.
  • It can cause high blood pressure, especially if taken with ecstasy or amphetamines.
  • It can cause panic attacks and depression.
  • It’s an anaesthetic, so you could choke on your own vomit.
